Grade II Listed Stone Cottage in Hexhamshire
A full stone cottage repointing job completed by Ash in previous years. The property was historically a pub that had since been converted into a house hence the quirky and characterful appearance. Situated in Hexhamshire in the Tyne Valley in Northumberland, this one is really in our back-yard! The location of this property means it’s exposed to the elements more than most, making it vulnerable to weathering.
Being a listed building, this was repointed using hot lime mortar and required samples submitted to the listed building conservation team in the planning department, plus a site visit during the works for approval and quality check. Lime mortar restored the breathability of the stone, keeping the property damp free and well protected.
We’ve revisited this property after 8 years and the pointing looks as good as new, so it’s standing the test of time brilliantly.
Stone Garden Wall in Corbridge
This stone wall between two charming cottages just outside Corbridge was completely ravaged by ivy which had damaged the stone structure and mortar. Bordering the most beautiful cottage garden, it was a real shame to let it continue.
The owners decided to start with the face wall and later had us return to do the capstones on top after being pleased with the result of the first phase. The old ivy was removed, small parts of the wall repaired and fully repointed using an NHL mix.
Lime Mortar Pointed Red Brick End Terrace in Hexham
This characterful red-brick end-terrace in the centre of Hexham was in need of a face-lift. Ash repointed the face wall in years past using an NHL mix after the normal wear and tear of weathering had taken it’s toll on the previous mortar.
It gives the property a fresh, bright and clean new look and helps to protect the brick and help it last for generations to come.
